The Real World (or) Go Quietly Along

Another short piece from 12 Poems At The End Of Another 1000 Years, one of my nine self-published poetry chapbooks:

Merchants sell our souls
right back to us
on silver and gold-plated platters
Banks and “trusts” own our paths
and our dignity
Even those who claim
to be from the stars
who say they can heal your soul
still want a piece of it
This is why
it is best to do your work
quietly, and without expectation
Because, in the real world
nothing has a price
