The Magic of Christmas

The magic of Christmas
is the childhood of an aged and weary soul
is the infinite childhood where even
the most disillusioned of dreams
reclines at ease, untampered, undisturbed
The magic of Christmas
is born in the heart
but is found, also, on childhood streets
behind old brick churches
at the dime store lunch counter
on the wind that just disappeared around the corner
along crimson fences, through ivy-grown gates
which lead to those dreamtime gardens
where the magic is always alive
The magic of Christmas
is always alive there
where Santa’s little people hide in your dreams
work and play in your sleep
darting down lanes forgotten
peering down rustic streets
and into your memories
The magic of Christmas
is when your house goes bump in the night with white spirits
good souls who once walked this earth
and have found that temple gate to reach you
leaving your gifts on the hearth
giving to your heart
what it needs to survive darkness
and to see through childlike eyes
The magic of Christmas
is the spirit of the season
is all hearts burning as one
lighting your lamp with the golden mysteries
