HIGH COUNCIL

I stood on a cliff the other day
and took council with the ocean waves
The crashing arms of the wise old sea
the rocking, shifting waters told me:
Be kind
but adamant
Be patient
but don’t stop living
Be honest
and try to find
the lesson
of love

SURRENDER

When words can’t describe it
When drugs can’t kill it
When money can’t contain it
or manipulate its outcome
When your heart can’t bear it
When symbols can’t glorify
When ghosts can’t hold it
When history can’t remember
where it belongs
and dreams can’t explain its peculiarity
When it’s that far out of your hands
then let it fall into the hands of the angels
Just give it up
and walk quietly away

AMENDMENT

The road still rolls on rough & tumble
The seasons still evolve
Angels still gaze upon our heads
Specters still stare through my soul
The Earth still spins on its axis
one full turn everyday
The cosmos unfold as they should
I’m the one who’s changed
The stars appear as ever in darkness
but I’m seeing them in a different way
